Donna Parise Byrne, PT, OCS, PRC

Donna Parise Byrne P.T., OCS, PRC

Donna, a former professional ballet dancer, graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in physical therapy. She worked at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in the Performing Arts, Chronic Pain and Arthritis program before opening her private practice and Pilates Central in 2003.

She is a certified Pilates instructor in rehab-based Pilates as well as a certified orthopedic specialist (OCS). Donna specializes in treating arthritis, neck and low back pain, sacroiliac dysfunction and musculoskeletal dysfunction, as well as prenatal and postpartum musculoskeletal disorders. Her approach to physical therapy is unique; combining orthopedic manual therapy with Pilates based exercise utilizing pilates equipment.

In 2017 Donna began sharing her vision of PRI Pilates with the world. In April 2017 she and Sarah Petrich, DPT, PRC, PMA-CPT presented at Pilates On Tour in Phoenix, Arizona. Then in October 2017 brought the course home to Illinois. Taught by Donna, Sarah and James Anderson from PRI in Lincoln, NE, Pilates Central hosted the first PRI Integration for Pilates. The course, which was sold out months in advance, included 32 attendees from around the world - Japan and Switzerland were represented - bringing Pilates, Physical Therapy and PRI together at last.

In 2016 Pilates Central was designated a Certified Postural Restoration Center. A Postural Restoration Center is a place of business where at least one individual is Postural Restoration credentialed (PRC or PRT) and all other individuals on staff have completed two or more PRI-sponsored courses. At Pilates Central, Donna Parise Byrne and Dan Houglum are both PRCs while Liesel Brown and Lyn Fuller, and the majority of the Pilates instructors have all taken multiple courses.

In May 2014 Donna & 5 Pilates Central instructors participated in the Pink Ribbon Certification hosted by Pilates Central. This two day course provided knowledge that is essential to the successful evaluation of the breast cancer survivor, from diagnosis to treatment, recovery, prevention of lymphedema and proper exercise guidelines and protocols.

We are pleased to announce that in 2012 Donna Parise Byrne completed her certification through the Postural Restoration Institute or PRI. To date, less than 100 therapists have earned the designation of Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) under the direction of Ron Hruska, MPA, PT.

The PRC therapists offer a unique approach to physical medicine called Postural Restoration. This approach addresses underlying biomechanics which can often lead to symptoms of pain and dysfunction. For more information about the Postural Restoration Institute go to www.posturalrestoration.com and browse the PRI's dynamic and informative website.

Pilates Central is looking forward to incorporating this knowledge and training into Donna's physical therapy practice and Pilates classes.
